Hookahs More Popular Among Teens Than Cigarettes

In our days teenagers like to smoke more hookahs than cigarettes. Some people call it a hookah, but it’s also recognized as a water pipe, shisha, narghile or even hubble bubble. This new product gain more popularity especially among teenagers and young adults.

A new study found that approximately 23 percent of young people in North America have used a hookah. That’s almost 1 in 4 young adults.

Once only available at Middle Eastern cafes, hookahs are appeared everywhere, including small towns and Internet cafes, according to a recent research.

And now almost all teens think that hookahs are not only safe, but also very cool.

“Are we producing a new epidemic even to decline cigarette use?” said Jennifer O’Loughlin of the University of Montreal. O’Loughlin and her colleagues studied 871 young adults, aged 18 to 24, who anonymously retailed on their substance abuse habits. They found that 201 had used a hookah in the previous year.

However, hookah use has been connected to lung cancer, heart disease and even pregnancy complications. But unfortunately people still think that they are safer than cigarettes.

Not only one research found in fact hookah smokers may inhale more tobacco smoke than cigarette smokers (more than 100 cigarettes) because of the large quantity of smoke they inhale in one “session”.

Plus, since hookah pipes at bars and cafes may not be cleaned correctly, they’ve got cooties. And that’s why hookahs smokers could very easy to catch an infectious disease.

Some states became stricter on hookah use. But on May 1, Michigan has prohibited the stuff. In other cases, hookah bars release a way for to avoid the state’s ban on cigarette smoking at bars and restaurants.

Smokers are attracted to smoke hookah only because it fruit flavored tobacco and pleasant smell. That’s why smokers don’t think how it is harmful for their health to smoke hookah, at the moment they think only at pleasant smoking pleasure of smoking such an aromatic tobacco taste.
